Cobi Maynard
Cardiff University
Hi I'm Cobi, a second year student on the CSM CDT. I graduated from Cardiff University with an Undergraduate Masters in Physics (MPhys). My PhD project is on CS integrated photonics manufacture and characterisation. I was the student representative for the CDT in his first year. I like dogs, contemporary art, and have started to learn how to play the ukulele.
Paradeisa O' Dowd Phanis
Cardiff University
Hi, I’m Paradeisa. I grew up in Cyprus but I am half Irish and have always dreamed of studying in the UK. I completed my undergraduate degree at Cardiff University, where I was involved in the Broadway Dance Society and the yoga society.
My PhD project is titles “Setting LWIR state of the Art using T2SL detectors (LIRA)” with Dr. Kesaria. The focus of the project is developing the next generation of high performance infrared imaging systems using type-II InAs/InAsSb SuperLattice (T2SL) as the device absorption region.
In my spare time I like to dance, draw and practice calligraphy.
William Cripps
University of Sheffield
Hi, I'm Will and I'm a second year CDT student currently studying at The University of Sheffield. My PhD project is on the deterministic nanoscale transfer printing of compound semiconductor nanowires for large-scale device integration. At the moment my research is focussed on creating a high throughput, site-controlled top-down fabrication technique for nanowire LEDs. Outside the lab I enjoy playing piano and strategy games.
Bogdan Ratiu
Cardiff University
Hi, I'm Bogdan. I've done my undergraduate degree in Sheffield in Physics with Computer Science.
In between finishing the undergraduate and joining the CDT, I've finished a research internship looking at electron reconstruction for the ATLAS detector at CERN.
For my PhD I'm studying the MOCVD growth of III/V semiconductors on silicon for active optical component integration.
Outside of academia, I enjoy gaming, hiking and running D&D for my friends.
Seyed Ghozati
Cardiff University
Hi, my name is Seyed. I did my master's degree at Northumbria University, currently I am a CDT student at Cardiff University. In my PhD project I am working on a low-loss ohmic contact for active devices based on GaN technology with Si substrate.
In my free time I enjoy learning new skills and languages, socialising and a good workout at the gym.
